Pilot Plant

A convenient way to process larger quantities or do test runs of new products

Sometimes businesses are unsure if they are investing in the proper commercial-scale equipment to meet their scale up needs, or they need a larger run of product to fill an order beyond their current processing capacity. The Innovation Centre Pilot Plant offers a convenient way to use commercial-grade equipment to test batches and/or produce product at a higher quantity.

This 1,200 sq. ft. facility is equipped for processing food and beverage products and is available for rent on a fee-for-service basis. An assortment of pilot-scale processing equipment is in place including: ultrafiltration; freeze drying; bottling line; rising film evaporation; modified atmosphere packaging; vacuum infusion; rapid freezing; filling and sealing technologies; and sub- and super-critical extraction.

Some equipment is installed permanently but most equipment is portable and can be moved into place and connected quickly to overhead utilities.

Because the pilot plant is provincially-inspected, food products produced are certified to be sold within Nova Scotia.
