Manager of Livestock and Field Crops
Jonathan provides advice to farmers on livestock production specializing in ruminants. He has extensive knowledge of ruminant production and management, particularly sheep. In addition, he has experience in policy and regulation related to livestock both provincially and nationally.
With over 25 years’ experience as a commercial farmer raising sheep and beef and delivering custom farm services; Jonathan brings practical experience with his current extension responsibilities. As a producer Jonathan has experience in the importation and marketing of livestock genetics.
He has been actively involved in many farm organizations, including provincial and national commodity associations. This experience includes being chair of both the Canadian Sheep Breeders Association and the Canadian Animal Health Coalition and serving on the Veterinary Drugs Directorate Stakeholder Committee.
As a founding director of two major national associations and instrumental in the development of the Canadian Voluntary Scrapie Flock/Herd Certification Program; Jonathan has a great appreciation of the process involved in association and program development.
One of Jonathan’s major projects with Perennia has been involvement with the Cape John Pasture project and implementation of Intensive Grazing Management with the Cape John Community Pasture Coop. He has shared the knowledge that has been gained with this project with numerous producers across the Maritimes.
Jonathan finds working directly with producers and commodity and rural community organizations very rewarding and has a strong interest and commitment to farm and community safety.
