ALLIUMS

Numerous allium crops are grown in Nova Scotia, with dry bulb onions having the largest acreage. Disease issues in dry bulb onions are one of the greatest challenges that growers face, predominantly down mildew, stemphyllium, and bacterial rot. Garlic, leeks, green onions, and other alliums are grown on smaller acreages. Leek moth is a new pest to Nova Scotia, positively identified in the Annapolis Valley in 2017 and growers are encouraged to scout for this new pest.
