ASPARAGUS

Asparagus grows best in deep, well-drained soils. This perennial crop takes several years to establish and good weed and pest control is essential to ensuring long term production. It is best to ensure good site preparation prior to planting such as the removal of perennial weeds, adjusting fertility and pH, and installing tile drainage if needed. An extensive breeding program at the University of Guelph has resulted in several new varieties to the industry over the last few years.
