CRANBERRIES

Cranberry production went through an expansion period in Nova Scotia in the early 2000’s due to high prices and the availability of new higher yielding varieties being released from breeding programs in the US. In recent years, price fluctuations have led to a decrease in acreage harvested in the province but a number of active growers are still producing a high quality crop mainly for fresh market sales with some acreage processed for frozen export markets. There has been a rise in demand for organic cranberries prompting the transition of a few farms to organic certification. Nova Scotia has an excellent climate to produce high quality cranberries and in this section of the website you will find production information pertinent to this crop.
