Plant Pathology and Diagnostic Services

Dr. Paul Hildebrand (Hildebrand Disease Management) is a plant pathologist and provides plant disease diagnostic services and plant disease management advice to the agricultural sector in Nova Scotia.  Dr. Hildebrand grew up in a farming community in Leamington, Ontario.  He managed a greenhouse farm that specialized in poinsettia and bedding plant production as well as cucumber and tomato production before completing his formal education.  He obtained his PhD in plant pathology from the University of Guelph in 1983 and then began his career as a research plant pathologist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), Kentville, Nova Scotia.  He researched numerous plant diseases of horticultural and agronomic crops, but his main focus was on the epidemiology and management of berry and vegetable crop diseases.  As a member of the Canadian and American Phytopathological Societies he has served on numerous boards and in editorial roles for scientific journals.  He is also a member of the Nova Scotia Institute of Agrologists.  Upon retirement from AAFC in 2014, he began working as an affiliate plant pathologist for Perennia.
