Food Safety Project Technician
Clarissa, the newest member of the Quality and Food Safety team, graduated from the Food Safety Advanced Diploma program after completion of her Honours Bachelor of Science degree at Memorial University in Newfoundland.
Throughout her Food Safety program, Clarissa completed courses related to the chemistry, microbiology and toxicology of food. She also took courses focused on food hygiene, food processing, industry inspection techniques, and the regulations that protect our food system. As part of this program, Clarissa completed a 13-week work term at Labatt Breweries. At the brewery, she gained experience in a quality control laboratory where she performed quality tests on in-process and finished product samples. She also performed monthly inspections of the brewing department’s prerequisite programs.
Clarissa has earned certificates for completing training in HACCP, the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, Thermal Processing of Canned Foods and Container Evaluation, and GFSI-recognized schemes including CanadaGAP, BRCGS, and SQF. She is also a member of the American Society for Quality and a Certified Food Safety and Quality Auditor.
As Perennia’s Food Safety Project Technician, Clarissa is responsible for supporting the Quality and Food Safety team with the implementation of the Agri-Food Accelerator Program. She provides support in implementing client food safety needs and plans, coaching, and preparing documents and training materials.
