FORAGES
Most of the forages produced in Nova Scotia is used for on farm feed. A limited amount is sold off farm for horse and beef feed. Forage makes up the largest commodity grown representing around 60% of the total agricultural land. Alfalfa and alfalfa mixes make up about 30,000 acres while other tame hay area makes up about 127,000 acres. These numbers can swing depending the pricing of other cash crops and livestock numbers.
