Strategic Initiatives and Development Manager
Building on Kyla’s previous roles at Perennia since 2015, she is now the Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Development where she will use her knowledge of the agriculture and seafood sectors in Nova Scotia to work with the industry and Perennia staff to develop, implement and manage impactful projects to assist with industry growth.
Previously at Perennia, Kyla led the Wine Sector Initiatives Co-ordination and Implementation project at Perennia and acted as the Business Development Team Lead.
Kyla has worked in the agriculture and the agri-food sector for more than 28 years. She was the 5th generation on her century family apple and certified strawberry plant farm. She worked in agricultural finance in all three Maritime Provinces and owned and operated a retail farm market which included fresh fruit and vegetables, a scratch bakery, gift shop and garden center. Her career later involved delivering a funding program for the federal government and working with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture in Halifax.
As a personal project, she self-published (created, designed, marketed and distributed) a now two-time Canadian bestselling cookbook.
Kyla has a BSc in Agricultural Economics from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College (now Dalhousie – Agricultural Campus). She has completed the Cultivate – Strategic Agricultural Leadership Course from the Richard IVEY School of Business, is a Professional Agrologist (PAg), and an Honourary Senator with the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture Senate Club.
