Xiaotang Yang joins Perennia as our Molecular Biologist. She will be filling in for Kendra McClure while she is on maternity leave.
Xiaotang has a B. Sc in Horticultural Science, an M.Sc. in Processing and Storage of Agricultural Products and a Ph.D. in Postharvest Science of Horticultural Products from South China Agricultural University. The majority of her M.Sc. and Ph.D. research focused on the temperature effect of chlorophyll degradation and volatile compound biosynthesis in banana fruit. A portion of her Ph.D. research was conducted at the AAFC Kentville Research and Development Centre in Nova Scotia, focusing on investigating apple fruit quality, flavour and nutrition, using genetic and proteomic techniques.
She is a self-educated mycophile and owned and operated a gourmet and medicinal mushroom business in Annapolis valley. During its operation, her business supplied exotic edible mushrooms and the mushroom cultures locally.
Xiaotang is excited to join the Perennia team and is looking forward to working with local grape growers.
