Nova Scotia's Minister of Agriculture Greg Morrow introduces activities taking place within the Department of Agriculture and welcomes Hants-Kings MP Kody Blois to speak on federal climate change initiatives. The event also features Nova Scotia's Minister of Environment and Climate Change Tim Halman, who will preview the climate change collaborations taking place across government. Senior Climate Specialist Alex Cadel rounds out the discussion with an informative look into how changing weather patterns in Nova Scotia will impact agricultural production.

Julie Bailey, Manager of Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change for the NS Department of Agriculture

Julie Bailey is the Manager of Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change for the NS Department of Agriculture. She is professional engineer and agrologist and has a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies from Dalhousie University with her research focusing on Sustainability. She has over 20 years experience with environmental and energy management. Julie lives in Earltown with her husband Rick and their four daughters.

Honourable Greg Morrow 

The Honourable Greg Morrow is Nova Scotia's Minister of Agriculture, and the Minister responsible for the Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission Act. Minister Morrow, a former journalist, is an avid supporter and promoter of community events and fundraisers and has coached minor hockey and school sports. Since becoming Minister of Agriculture, he has immersed himself in the issues that are important to the industry and is building relationships across the province. Among his priorities are leading the provincial effort to increase the consumption of local food and reducing the costs of eating healthy. Minister Morrow was elected to the Nova Scotia Legislature in August 2021. He lives in Tracadie with his wife Suzanne and their two daughters.


Alex Cadel, Climate Services Specialist

Alex Cadel is the Climate Services Specialist for the province of Nova Scotia, working in a shared role between the Department of Environment & Climate Change and CLIMAtlantic, the new regional climate services hub for Atlantic Canada. Alex's work involves supporting Nova Scotians from all sectors in accessing, understanding, and applying information about climate change to their adaptation decision-making. Alex holds a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Guelph and a Master of Climate Change from the University of Waterloo, along with a variety of professional experience that includes downscaling climate projections for municipalities, climate adaptation planning in the forestry sector, and managing climate change projects with the Confederacy of Mainland Mi'kmaq.


Kody Blois, MP​, Kings-Hants 

Born and raised in Kings–Hants, Kody grew up in a working-class household. The first member of his family to attend university, Kody completed degrees in commerce, law and public administration, which sparked his interest in serving his community. Before entering politics, Kody was heavily involved in the community through volunteering with non-profit organizations, coaching amateur sport, a working as a lawyer with McInnes Cooper.  

Since being elected in 2019, Kody has been a member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food and was elected Committee Chair by his peers after being re-elected in 2021. In his first term as Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants, Kody served as Chair of the National Liberal Rural Caucus. Through these roles, Kody has met hundreds in the agriculture and agri-food sector, including farmers and producers from across the country, to better understand the issues and opportunities in the industry. 

Kody now serves as Chair of the Liberal Atlantic Caucus, representing the region at the National Caucus table.


Tim Halman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change 

Tim Halman was appointed as the Nova Scotia Minister of the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change and Chair of Treasury and Policy Board on August 31, 2021. As Minister, he is responsible for fulfilling the department's mandate to protect the environment, the health and safety of Nova Scotians, the welfare of farm animals, and to address climate change.  Prior to his career in government, he was a social studies teacher at Prince Andrew High School in Dartmouth for 13 years. In 2014 he was named Canada's Everyday Political Citizen of the Year. In 2015, he was nominated by the Halifax Regional School Board for the Superintendents Award for Teaching Excellence.   He was born and raised in Dartmouth where he lives today with his wife Christine and their four children.
