This event is being held as part of the On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) program. The goals of the program are to encourage on-farm sequestration of carbon and reduction in greenhouse gases through the implementation of improved nitrogen management, enhanced cover crop adoption, and the normalization of rotational grazing. Session Description

We would love to hear more from you about Soil Health! Join us and Horticulture Nova Scotia as we host a follow-up workshop to the Soil Health Results Workshop held earlier this year. Participate in a workshop on Biological Nitrogen Availability (BNA) fertilizer credit led by Amy Sangster (NSDA), a facilitated discussion on soil health topics and a presentation by Airex Energy on why biochar is a powerful soil amendment in horticulture crops. Lunch and snacks will be provided!
This event is also funded by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change Climate Change Plan for Clean Growth.

Guest Speaker

Amy Sangster, Manager of Animal and Crop Services, Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture (NSDA)

Amy Sangster is the Manager of Animal and Crop Services with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture. She works with the Plant and Animal Lab which analyzes soil, tissue, soil amendments, water and feeds. She also works with the Pest and Regulation group which is responsible for regulations under the Bee Industry Act, the Dairy Act and the Weed Control Act. Amy has over 25 years experience working in agriculture, from working on farm, in academia, extension and now government. She is grateful for the years spent working towards taking care of the ground that sustains us. 

Lylia Khennache, Vice-President Climate Solutions, Airex Energy

Lylia Khennache is the Vice-President Climate Solutions at Airex Energy. Prior to this, she was Head of integrated risks management at Hydro-Quebec and project manager of Environmental projects for Cowater International. Lylia is economist by training (focus on ecological economics) and holds a Ph. D in Bioresource Engineering from McGill University.
