This event is being held as part of the On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) program. The goals of the program are to encourage on-farm sequestration of carbon and reduction in greenhouse gases through the implementation of improved nitrogen management, enhanced cover crop adoption, and the normalization of rotational grazing. For more info on the OFCAF program, please visit ofcaf.perennia.ca

Session Description

Are you interested in learning more about the nutritional breakdown of on-farm resources (ex. compost, manure)? Are you ready to tackle nitrogen calculations to understand the nutrients supplied by manure and compost?

Join Perennia Specialists in a four-hour workshop held in five different locations across the province this winter. The sessions will start with a series of short presentations focusing on broader use of manure and compost as nitrogen sources, and then later break out into commodity-specific working groups to focus on the use of these nitrogen amendments in your specific crops. We will dive into calculations and nitrogen credits, utilizing the NS Soil Labs results from soil and amendment analyses as our base point.

These sessions will be the same focus and structure as the 2024 Nutrient Management Workshops, just hosted in different locations. Participants who joined last year are welcome to come for a refresher and revisit the calculations/concepts presented. New participants are encouraged to register and participate in the events as well.

Look forward to a hands-on session and discussion amongst your commodity members focused on utilizing local resources to their full potential. Bring your favourite calculator, and please register ahead to secure your seat – spots are limited to maximize the impact of the break-out sessions. Please note that specific sessions are directed at specific commodities based on regional relevance (ex. viticulture, apples, wild blueberries).

The Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture will be supplying snacks and refreshments for each session and will be in attendance.
