The pork industry in Nova Scotia is a family business that is a fundamental component of the rural community. Our provincial hog production consists of pigs which are raised to market weight (farrow to finish and grower/finisher operations), and weaned piglets being sold as “iso-weans” (mostly into Quebec and Ontario). Approximately 95% of these pigs are raised by our larger hog farms, with the remaining production occurring on smaller scale operations. Nova Scotia pork can be found at many farm markets, smaller retail locations and direct from the farmers.
