The ornamental greenhouse sector is worth about $5.7M annually in Nova Scotia and greenhouse vegetables production is estimated to be worth approximately $4.8M annually.
Local ornamental greenhouses produce high quality bedding plants, finished planters, and transplants for vegetable gardens that are well suited to our Nova Scotia growing season. Other greenhouse producers grow fresh local produce (mostly leafy greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers) for most months of the year in greenhouses. Greenhouse production is very specialized and requires different methods and equipment than outdoor production. In this section of the website you will find information regarding greenhouse production. For specific information on vegetable production, see the vegetable section of the website.
